Application of polyferric sulfate in aquaculture

Release time: 2025-08-25

Polyferric sulfate (PFS) is used as an efficient water quality and sediment improver in aquaculture. It can significantly improve the aquaculture environment through flocculation, precipitation, oxidation, decomposition and nutrient supplementation. The specific applications are as follows:

I. Water purification

  1. Remove pollutants
    • Rapidly precipitate suspended organic matter and heavy metal ions, reduce water turbidity and improve transparency.
    • Degradation of harmful substances such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, hydrogen sulfide, COD/BOD, etc., regulation of water pH value, and maintenance of ecological balance.
  2. Oxygenation and transparency increased
    • Granular PFS is deposited and slowly dissolved at the bottom of the sedimentation pond to promote the convection between the upper and lower water bodies and increase the dissolved oxygen. Its molecular chain adsorbs suspended matter, making the water clear and bright and conducive to aquatic organisms to receive light.

II. Bed improvement

  1. Decomposing sediment
    • Decompose organic matter and biological metabolites at the bottom of the sediment, improve the permeability and oxidation state of the sediment, and reduce the release of harmful substances.
  2. Cooperate with biological bottoming
    • After PFS oxidizes and decomposes macromolecular organic matter into small molecules, it needs to be combined with EM bacteria, photosynthetic bacteria and other microbial preparations to achieve complete degradation of organic matter.

III. Algae regulation and nutrient supplementation

  1. Inhibit harmful algae
    • Control excessive algae growth (such as algal blooms) and maintain water clarity.
  2. Promote the growth of beneficial algae
    • The Fe³⁺ produced by hydrolysis is absorbed by algae to enhance photosynthesis and growth ability; the Fe²⁺ enters the intestinal tract of aquatic animals to improve immunity and survival rate.

Fourth, enhance biological resistance to disease

  • Fungus inhibition: inhibit pathogenic microorganisms and harmful bacteria, reduce the incidence of fish, shrimp and crab, improve the survival rate.
  • Promote growth: supplement iron can improve the resilience of breeding objects, and the adult individuals are large and delicious.

V. Usage Notes

  1.  applicable scene
    • Suitable for old ponds with too much sludge, ponds with black and smelly water in the late stage of aquaculture, and ponds for shrimp, fish and crab.
    • Best time: middle and late stage of aquaculture (peak period of organic matter accumulation in sediment).
  2. Key points of operation
    • Dosage control: excessive use is easy to lead to a sudden drop in water pH (PFS solution pH=2~3), which will harm aquatic life.
    • Incompatible: avoid mixing with disinfectant and flocculant; do not use in rainy or oxygen-deficient days.
    • Water quality monitoring: test the water body pH before use to ensure that it is within 6~9.

VI. Extended applications

  • Aquatic plant cultivation: used for lotus root, water chestnut and other freshwater plant cultivation, to prevent bacterial infection and supplement iron, promote yield.
