The Chinese national standard for polyaluminium chloride is GBT22627-2022
I. Standard Background and Positioning
- Release and implementation
Issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation on March 9, 2022 and officially implemented on October 1, 2022, replacing the old version of GB/T 22627-2014.
Suitable for industrial water supply, wastewater, sewage and sludge treatment polyaluminum chloride (PAC) products.
- Normative objectives
We will unify product quality requirements, strengthen safety indicators such as heavy metals and microorganisms, and promote standardization of the water treatment industry.
2. Core technical requirements
Product classification and appearance
Liquid: colorless to yellowish brown transparent liquid; solid: white to yellowish brown particles/powder, no lumps, no odor.
Key performance indicators
project | Liquid requirements | Solid requirements |
Alumina (Al₂O₃) | ≥8.0% | ≥28.0% |
Density (20℃) | ≥1.12 g/cm³ | - |
Salinity | 20.0%~98.0% | 30.0%~95.0% |
undissolved substance | ≤0.4% | ≤0.4% |
PH Value (10g/L solution) | 3.5~5.0 | 3.5~5.0 |
Heavy metals (e.g. arsenic, lead) | Strictly limit the quantity (e.g., arsenic ≤ 0.0005%) |
|
Add and adjust indicators
Add: density (liquid), ammonia nitrogen test items; strengthen: heavy metal limit (arsenic, lead, cadmium, etc.). Raw material specification: production hydrochloric acid should comply with GB/T 320 industrial standard, if using hazardous waste, environmental approval is required. Add: density (liquid), ammonia nitrogen test items; strengthen: heavy metal limit (arsenic, lead, cadmium, etc.). Raw material specification: production hydrochloric acid should comply with the GB/T 320 industrial standard, if using hazardous waste, environmental approval should be obtained.
3. Testing method and quality assurance
- Multi-method collaborative detection
Alumina content: titration; salinity: spectrophotometry; heavy metals: atomic absorption spectrometry.
The index of liquid product shall be calculated according to the limit value of Al₂O₃ content ≥ 10%.
- Quality control process
Enterprises need to carry out factory inspection (alumina, salt base degree, pH, etc.) and regular full inspection.
IV. Packaging, storage and transportation and safety specifications
- packing requirement
Liquid: polyethylene barrel sealing; solid: double packaging (inner polyethylene film + outer bag), indicating the product name, model and production date.
- Storage and transportation conditions
Keep away from light, ventilation, dry environment, away from fire source; liquid shelf life is 3 months, solid 12 months.
V. Differences from drinking water standards
- Scope of application: GB/T 22627-2022 is for industrial water treatment, while domestic drinking water is subject to the more stringent GB 15892-2020 (e.g., arsenic limit ≤0.0001%).
- Indicator differences: The content of industrial grade Al₂O₃ (≥28%) is lower than that of drinking water grade (≥29%), and the limit of heavy metals is more relaxed.
Vi. Significance of the implementation of the standards
- Industry upgrading
Eliminate backward production capacity, promote the development of efficient and environmentally friendly PAC technology.
- Water quality assurance
Strictly control harmful substances to reduce the risk of secondary pollution.
- Market standardization
Crack down on inferior products and safeguard the rights and interests of downstream users.
GB/T 22627-2022 establishes a benchmark for the production and application of polyaluminum chloride through scientific technical indicators and rigorous testing systems, marking a significant advancement in aligning China's water treatment chemical standards with international norms. Enterprises should keep pace with standard upgrades, optimize production processes, and jointly promote the development of a green water treatment ecosystem.
